Episode Sixty Nine – Why I Can’t Stop Blogging

This might seem like an ironic post title given what happened in the month of July (i.e. nothing – no new posts or updates, sorry again about that). However, I find that however long I go without posting on WordPress, I always get that itch to come back and continue sharing with all of you: and, more to the point, as soon as I do, I often can’t stem the flow of words and ideas that I suddenly just have to spout forth.

Knee-high by the 4th of July…

Saturday Spotlight Eleven – Songs I Love

Hi everyone! It’s late, I’m not in bed and I have to get up early tomorrow to go collect Grant from the airport :)

It’s strange to think that I’ll be welcoming him to Strasbourg, a place where I’ve been living for months now and I’ve built my own little scenario here. I wonder what he’ll make of it?

I listen to music a lot. I live far out from the city of Strasbourg so I spend a lot of time in public transport, going to and from places, and I don’t know many of my classmates so I listen to music as I wait for class to begin. I certainly wouldn’t say that I know much about music, but I will say that there are a few songs that I feel like I know in the same way as one knows a person. I don’t savoir them: I connaître them. I thought I’d share these songs with you because in the last few days I’ve had a few occasions where I’ve realised that the music I’m listening to has drastically changed my mood. These are songs that I love, songs that make me feel a certain way, songs that bring back a certain moment, songs that I want to put in totally inappropriate playlists because I love them so much. I hope you enjoy!

Don’t get me wrong – San Ramón is a lovely town, my coworkers are wonderful, and I enjoy my job and feel like it matters. However, while my daily life is nice here, it’s still daily life, and my weekends are when I can properly get out into the green of Costa Rica and feel like I’m really here.

Episode Thirty Six – The last month of my life (Part 1)

I was planning to begin this post with an apology. My pristine blogging system has gone quite down the drain in these last few weeks, and I was going to say that I’m so sorry for just copying out the running commentary that I kept in my lovely Liberty notebook as I was travelling. Continue reading

Episode Twenty – Eleven

It had been several years since I had been unable to sleep from excitement on Christmas Eve. Those of you who know me well are aware of my affinity for sleeping and how anything less than nine hours of sleep in a night will leave me bleary and limp the next day. Well – on Christmas Eve of 2010 I had a whole new situation to contend with. When I woke up the next morning, I would be spending the holiday with a whole new family – a family who had invited me into their home to celebrate on the most family-focused day of the year. Well – I can’t speak for Thanksgiving, but in Scotland at least, Christmas is the humdinger. Continue reading
